Sharp Adds to Growth in the 3D Projection Market

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Are you ready to make the move to 3D? The 3D projection market continues to expand, as Sharp has entered the growing market. Sharp’s suite of six 3D-ready, DLP BrilliantColor professional projectors aim to stand above the competition with energy saving features such as low standby power consumption, in addition to an  expanded lamp life through eco mode operations.

Sharp’s six new models include the following:

  • PG-D45X3D (4,500 ANSI lumens, XGA native resolution)
  • PG-D40W3D (4,000 ANSI lumens, WXGA native resolution)
  • PG-D3510X (3,500 ANSI lumens, XGA native resolution)
  • PG-D3010X (3,000 ANSI lumens, XGA native resolution)
  • PG-D2710X (2,700 ANSI lumens, XGA native resolution)
  • PG-D2500X (2n500 ANSI lumens, XGA native resolution)

Key elements behind the new models also include a wireless remote with a built-in spotlight function and on-screen pointer to support presentations. As a safety feature, the projector automatically shuts off if the lens cover is closed more than 30 minutes.

All models are expected to be rolled out by April 2010.

New Split-Screen InFocus Projectors for Classrooms

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

InFocus announced two new additions to its projector line specifically for the education market. The projectors (IN5534 and IN5504) both have a new split-screen option, which will virtually eliminate the need for multiple projectors in classrooms. Both projectors, specified at WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution, are network/wireless ready and feature analog and HD video connectivity. The two models are easy to camouflage in nearly any environment thanks to InFocus’ custom case parts available in multiple colors, including white, black, walnut, and ready to paint.

Meet the PRO AV Brand Leaders

Readers have their say about the AV products they count on the most.
By PRO AV Editors
PRO AV magazine

PRO AV asked its readers which brands they use most-and not just their top brands, but also the ones they go to when their flagship is inappropriate, unavailable, ruled out by the client, or otherwise not the first choice in a given situation. In April, we invited PRO AV integrators, installers, consultants, and end-users to take an exclusive online survey and asked them their brand preferences in 23 AV product categories. More than 250 AV pros completed the survey, and while not every participant had experience with products in every category, their feedback was compelling.

InFocus Installation Projectors Overview

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

There are three great reasons that people who use projectors in classrooms, conference rooms, and other large image applications will love the new InFocus IN5300 and IN5500. They are; good looks, nice features, and super functionality.

The latest installation projectors from InFocus are the IN5300 and 5500 series projectors. That includes six projectors (IN5302, IN5304, IN5502, IN5504, IN5532, IN5534). The IN5300 level projectors have most of the same features, but do not include optional lensing (which is perfectly OK for about 80% of installations). There are a few other differences too, like brightness and resolution. But let’s talk about a few of the cool new features available on the latest and greatest InFocus installation products. By the way, if you want to skip the text, we are also posting a short video going over this too. Just look at the video above.

New Features on New InFocus Installation Projectors

The product designers at InFocus took the advice of users and resellers to address a few ‘missing’ features from the projectors they have used in the past. Those missing features included a few of the ‘problems’ listed below.

Problems with Older Installation Projectors :

  • XGA and lower 4×3 resolutions display in low resolution.
  • Projectors look industrial, cables looked messy.
  • Video conferencing collaborative content and white boards require multiple displays. Even projectors with split screen typically could not run dual video.

IN5300 and IN5500 Projector Solutions :

  • New WXGA and UXGA options available
  • Special cable management secret compartment, and multiple color options for casing (including a paintable primer for custom
  • color)

  • Enhanced Split Screen allows for multiple video – great for videoconferencing

New InFocus High Performance Features

InFocus seems to have adequately addressed most of those concerns with their new line. Their new line has also held tight to popular features while adding some other bits of cool, like a blue lit ring around the lens to indicate if the projector is powering off or on – a commonly confusing time for those who get confused about whether the projectors has begun to start-up or shut-down. As mentioned above, the new Enhanced Split Screen capabilities are a great new feature, as well as a Dynamic Messaging system that allows administrators to ‘broadcast’ messages to any projector on the network for important announcements. Here is a quick overview of the features available in the new InFocus lineup :

  • Enhanced Split Screen playback – perfect for video conferencing
  • Widescreen HD resolutions offered
  • Horizontal and vertical lens shift (manual in 5300s and motorized in 5500s)
  • Single or Dual lamps (5500 series)
  • Multiple lensing options (5500 series)
  • Customizable screen “help” page
  • Changeable ’skins’ for projector casing (including wood grain, black, white, and or primer paintable)
  • Illuminated blue “glow ring” to indicate when projector is cooling down and starting up
  • Embedded networking included (compatible with Crestron or AMX panels)
  • Dynamic Messaging System allows for ‘broadcasting messages” to any InFocus projector on the network

So there you have our overview. Now feel free to watch InFocus’ Benjamin Joy talking about the new projectors live and in person – on video.

On Earth Day, Sony Electronics (SEL) launched its GreenFill recycling service program

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Alert! It has come to our attention that there is a computer virus named Green AV (”Green AntiVirus”) circulating on the internet. AVI-SPL in not affiliated with or affected by the Green AV hoax. All references to Green AV on any of AVI-SPL’s websites is relevant to the Green Audio Visual industry.

On Earth Day, Sony Electronics (SEL) launched its GreenFill recycling service program – the nation’s first in-store, drop-box solution sponsored by a consumer electronics manufacturer.

“Sony’s GreenFill program is providing consumers with a convenient, sustainable solution for recycling small electronic products,” said Mike Fasulo, SEL executive vice president, chief marketing officer and corporate social responsibility officer. “We are continuing our commitment to reach our goal of recycling one pound of old consumer electronics equipment for every pound of new products sold.”

Sony’s new Greenfill e-recycle drop boxes provide a convenient way for consumers to recycle small CE products such as cameras at retail.

The program was launched on Earth Day to further encourage consumers to dispose of old or unwanted electronics in an environmentally-safe manner.

GreenFill service simplifies electronics recycling by providing consumers the ability to recycle small electronics – such as cameras, portable music devices, small laptops, cell phones and portable gaming devices – at participating retail locations. It’s a convenient solution that allows consumers to recycle any brand of product at no cost.

The program is an extension of Sony’s Take Back Recycling program and is designed to help build awareness of Sony’s nationwide network of more than 270 drop-off locations where larger Sony-branded electronics will be accepted at no charge and other brands will be accepted for a small fee.

Since last week’s Greenfill launch, 92 retail partners have joined SEL in its goal to make it as easy to recycle small consumer electronics, as it is to purchase them.

Nassim Sarraf, senior specialist, marketing, said many SEL retail partners have jumped on board, because they recognize the program could resonate with consumers.

“Greenfill is a way to show consumers you share the same values … a shared commitment to the environment and a sustainable future,” she said. “At the same time, it’s an opportunity to drive more traffic to their stores and positively impact sales.”

As part of the program, SEL covers the costs of recycling fees and promotional materials, which can be used by dealers for their own promotions. In exchange, the company requires dealers to prominently display the co-branded, e-recycle drop box in store, absorb the costs of shipping the box to Sony-designated recycling locations, promote Sony’s recycling efforts and drop-off locations for larger electronics, and leverage provided materials to educate employees and promote to consumers. All requirements are detailed in a requisite dealer contract.

Sony also adopted the use of recycled and reused materials in several models of their LCDs, and all are EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive compliant, helping prevent harmful materials, such as lead, from leaching into our ecosystem when improperly disposed while also helping increase recycling and reduce potential chemical exposure from the manufacturing process. And further keeping green in mind, suppliers for products are certified as green partners based on Sony’s stringent standard for chemical substances used in products.

Epson’s Next Generation Short-Throw, Widescreen Projector Offers Shorter Throw Lens and Increased

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

To address K-12 schools’ needs for interactive whiteboard projection solutions, Epson, one of the number-one selling projector brands worldwide, recently introduced the PowerLite 410W short throw, widescreen projector. An upgrade to the incredibly popular PowerLite 400W – the industry’s first short throw, widescreen 3LCD projector – the PowerLite 410W offers native WXGA resolution (1280×800) for use with widescreen computers and 16:10 interactive whiteboards, and additional enhancements including a shorter throw lens, increased brightness and an optional wall mount for added flexibility.

Featuring a shorter throw lens than the previous model, the PowerLite 410W projects a 60-inch 16:10 image from two feet away, making it ideal for wall mounting. This improved design gives more space to students and teachers in smaller classrooms, while drastically reducing shadows from presenters.
