AVI-SPL Employees Give Back This Holiday Season

One of our major focuses for 2012 has been giving back in the communities where we live and work. In keeping with that theme, our team members are volunteering their time this holiday season to give back to the less fortunate.

Just before Thanksgiving, more than 40 Tampa-based employees volunteered for half-day shifts in the Metropolitan Ministries Holiday Tent. Teams stocked shelves with canned food and dry goods, and helped local needy families choose which items they’d like for their Thanksgiving meal. Celebrating its 40th year, Metropolitan Ministries provided holiday meals for more than 2,200 families in November alone.

Our Houston team will be volunteering at the Houston Food Bank phone center in early December. Phone volunteers register clients by phone to receive holiday food boxes from the food bank. According to the website, tens of thousands of people in the greater Houston area receive access the food they need over the holidays through these volunteer efforts.

Employees across the country are also hosting food, clothing and toy drives for their local charities. Stay tuned to read more about these drives.

Summer Time is Learning Time for Teachers

Two Summer Institutes are planned for the Tampa and Detroit areas this year.  Dunedin Highland Middle School located in beautiful Dunedin, Florida, is the host site for our four-day event, July 23rd to 26th. The prestigious Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan is the site for the Summer Institute, held August 23rd and 24th. Hundreds of teachers are expected to gather and work in Professional Learning Communities and create engaging strategies that support higher-order thinking skills for their students. And the cool thing is they will be learning how to use the latest in classroom technology at the same time!

Registration is currently open for both events.  To learn more about the Summer Institutes, select one of these links:
