See AVI-SPL’s Collaborative Systems at Offshore Technology Conference 2012

Houston, Tx. – Business solutions integrator AVI-SPL and its Control Room Group division will showcase collaborative visualization systems at the upcoming Offshore Technology Conference 2012 from April 30-May 3, 2012 at Reliant Park.

Collaborative visualization solutions display large amounts of data simultaneously for teams around the world, allowing geoscientists, engineers and researchers to analyze critical data. These systems optimize all phases of the oil and gas life cycle, allowing for sophisticated exploration capabilities, accurate well construction/positioning,  and increasing production and recovery rates to reduce total cost of ownership.  The Control Room Group’s dedicated Oil & Gas team has completed multiple remote control rooms( RCRs), operations centers, visualization centers, process control centers, as well as conference and training rooms.

Look for AVI-SPL at booth 7702 and visit the CRG page to learn more about our ability to integrate conrol room environments.

Another Way to Buy Your New Control Center

"Control Room Group"Are you ready to refresh your existing control room, expand your existing control room space or build a new control center in a new facility? If so, you’ll soon see that making the decision to move forward on the project was the easy part of the process and now the really hard work begins.

What is the hardest of the hard work? Figuring out how you’re going to pay for the new control room.

In previous posts, we’ve talked about the traditional ways of purchasing Control Room Group (CRG) goods and services, i.e. the traditional negotiated purchase and the lease – and the benefits of each. Now we’d like to talk with you about a NEW way to purchase your control center.

Let’s fast forward through the initial contact, the series of meetings between your staff (operators, engineers, IT staff, facility engineers and security staff) and ours (design engineers, production engineers, project managers and installation managers) and get to the part where you’re satisfied that the CRG will provide you with the control room of your dreams and you’re ready to buy.

So, what’s the NEW way to buy all or a portion of your control center? By taking advantage of available federal grant monies. Yes, there are federal grants available that can pay for all or a large portion of your control room project! I was surprised to learn over the last few weeks of 2011 about the number of government grant programs that are available to our clients, and this grant money can be used to help pay for your control room project.

In an attempt to facilitate the grant proposal process and ease the potential pain of learning this process, the CRG has a staff member who is expert in the world of grants and we are offering their services to you FREE of charge. Our team is here to help you research available grants, determine whether or not your project qualifies and then, and most importantly, help you write the grant proposal. If you want to get started on searching for available grant money, please call me or drop me an email.

As you move forward on your project(s) this year, don’t forget that there are a variety of ways to pay for your new control center – outright purchase, lease and purchase, lease only, and last, but certainly not least, utilizing available federal grant monies. Please take advantage of our new grant assistance services. I think you’ll be plesantly surprised by the number of funding sources available to the market.

Christie MicroTiles Enhance Network Operations Center

Christie MicroTilesChristie MicroTiles were a central part of a recent AVI-SPL integration for a command center covering one of the Northeast regions’ largest metropolitan areas.

In this 22,000-square-foot facility, three large video walls consist of 840 Christie MicroTile display cubes. AVI-SPL’s Special Projects Group installed these MicroTiles in conjunction with a sophisticated external multi-image processor to display various combinations of images. Numerous video sources can be simultaneously displayed across the video arrays and can be positioned and resized on the fly as required, allowing for real-time crisis analysis and management.

Happy Birthday Control Room Group!

by David Jones, CRG Director of Sales

The Control Room Group (CRG) celebrated its 10th birthday in June of 2011.  Yes, though it’s hard to believe, the CRG is 10 years old.

From an idea sold to the “Boss” over a fruit salad to a thriving multi-million dollar business, the CRG has come a very long way in a short 10 years.  From three employees to almost 50, from a single project (actually

One of the CRG's early projects - US Central Command

a project and a half) the first year to over 65 projects in the year that just ended, the CRG has shown tremendous growth over the years!

The success of the CRG is directly attributable to the each and every one of people who works for the group.  Without their effort and dedication, it is safe to say that there probably wouldn’t be a 10-year celebration.

A Look Back

While the CRG has changed over the last decade, so has the business environment that we work in.  In fact, many of the changes we’ve seen in the CRG have been dictated by the changes in the market.

  • We’ve seen display technology evolve from cubes with a giant footprint, to cubes that take up as little as 14” of floor space.
  • We’ve seen video cubes lighted by incandescent bulbs with 10,000 hours (maybe) of useable life expectancy to video cubes lighted by an LED-based illumination source with 50,000+ hours!
  • We’ve seen digital devices replace most analog ones, fiber replace copper, flat panel LCD displays of all sizes replace CRT based displays of all sizes and network based processors working in conjunction with an amazing variety of software suites replace simple UNIX or Windows-based  slow and (much worse than slow) volatile “black boxes.”

A Special Word of ‘Thanks’

The marketplace and technology has changed over the last 10 years just as the CRG has, but  there is one thing that hasn’t changed at the CRG: Our dedication and commitment to you — our current and future clients

To our current clientele: Thank you very much for giving us the opportunity to work with you over the last 10 years.

To our future clients: We look forward to having the opportunity to work with you on your control room, physical security or visualization or simulation project over the next 10 years and beyond.

Let us help you with your next control room project, I’m confidant you’ll find the experience as pleasant and productive as our current clientele has.
