WAVE Honors AVI-SPL’s Alexis LaBroi with First Ever Mentor Award

Alexis LaBroi WAVELas Vegas – Women in AV (WAVE) honored AVI-SPL account manager Alexis LaBroi with their first mentoring award, presented during the NSCA–WAVE networking reception on Wednesday, June 13 at the AV industry’s annual InfoComm show.

After some words from WAVE founder Jennifer Willard and an introduction from member Cory Schaeffer of Listen Technologies, Alexis gleefully accepted her award.

“I’m excited to see more and more women in the industry, and more and more mentors,” said LaBroi. “It’s great to share your experience and knowledge with other people.”

Willard said she is excited for Alexis to be the first recipient of the award. “Alexis’s mentoring efforts to support and encourage women in our industry are remarkable,” Willard said. “Her accomplishments demonstrate why she is a very deserving winner. It is critical for us, as women, to recognize each other for the great work we do for others and we’re thrilled to recognize Alexis for all of her hard work as a professional in the AV industry and a remarkable mentor,” Willard said.

Alexis was nominated for this prestigious award by Candace McPherson, who worked with her at Gaylord National in Washington, DC.

“Alexis challenged me to test my own knowledge, and taught me to be a better, more knowledgeable professional,” McPherson said. “She inspired me to have faith in myself, and be confident in what I know.”

Alexis LaBroi WAVE InfoComm12McPherson said Alexis also inspired her to never give up, even though she faced challenges as a woman breaking into in the AV industry. “She gives 100 percent … even when others would throw in the towel,” McPherson said. “She is also a loving and warm family-centered woman. Her nurturing quality is evident in the way she serves those around her.”

Alexis has been in the event technology industry for more than 15 years, holding leadership roles in operations, training and sales. She joined AVI-SPL’s Columbia, Md., team as an account manager in April 2012.

“Hiring Alexis was the easiest decision I’ve ever made,” said Greg Brice, AVI-SPL business development manager. “In addition to finding new opportunities for AVI-SPL, she has established herself as a leader in the office and a person that people look up to.

“Alexis clearly knows the audiovisual industry and what it takes to be successful,” added Brice. “She is driven, passionate and hard-working.”

Congratulations Alexis! We’re proud to have you on the AVI-SPL team!

Thanks to Arlen Schweiger and Jennifer Willard for their contributions to this article.

The Tampa rental team celebrated this milestone at an event in Jack’s honor. AVI Founder and AVI-SPL Executive Chairman Marty Schaffel and CEO John Zettel, along with others who have worked closely with Jack over the years spoke of his strong work ethic and dedication to the company.

“We could never have built a successful rental company without Jack’s great care and attention to detail,” said Marty Schaffel. “I am very grateful for all Jack has done for this company over the years.

“Jack came to AVI when we had only 21 employees,” said Marty. “At that time, it was a big deal to rent a slide projector or a 16mm movie projector. Jack has always shown great care toward our inventory, worked hard to make sure customers were happy, and do whatever he could to make sure the rental department had a successful event,” Marty added.

“Our company and the rental division have experienced significant changes over the last 25 years, but one constant has been Jack and his commitment to his job,” said John Zettel. “Our rental division has grown and improved over the years and Jack played a significant role in making that happen,” John added.

Thank you for 25 great years, Jack!
