White House Endorses Video Conferencing

Telepresence meetingAn Executive Order released by the White House on November 9 set forth the goal of reducing federal spending on travel for its employees by relying on alternative methods of communication, such as video conferencing.

In the order titled¬†“Promoting Efficient Spending,” President Obama¬†emphasizes the need for government agencies to carry out their duties and functions in the most efficient way. In section 3, the president writes, “To ensure efficient travel spending, agencies are encouraged to devise strategic alternatives to Government travel, including local or technological alternatives, such as teleconferencing and video conferencing.”

Today’s video conferencing technologies empower organizations to achieve the efficiencies and cost-saving measures that the president mandates for each federal government agency. Meeting participants can effectively collaborate from dedicated rooms or the comfort of their desktops.
